Two hours, hands on in the water, all gear included, all levels welcome. The easiest way to catch waves, featured at beautiful Te Arai or Orewa.
Our two hour surf lesson is how most people meet the ocean with us. You will spend a short time learning safety and the fundamentals, then the remaining time in the water with a qualified coach, in a small group, learning the things that actually get you standing up.
We start on the sand with an ocean safety briefing and the basics of paddling and popping up, then we get you straight into the waves where the learning really happens. Boards are soft and forgiving, the wetsuits are warm, and the coaching is patient and genuinely fun.
Beginners start with the things that get you standing up: beach and ocean awareness, reading the waves, paddling technique, and mastering the pop up so you can ride the waves in.
Already up and riding? Your coach moves you on to catching unbroken waves, generating speed, positioning, wave selection, your first turns and getting out the back.
Everyone from complete first timers to improvers brushing up, ages 6 and over. Teenagers and adults especially love Te Arai for its consistent, friendly wave. Younger surfers are welcome too, and Orewa is a favourite on the Hibiscus Coast.
Te Arai is our home break and the featured option, a stunning regional park beach with a wave that suits learning. Orewa is also available for those wanting a smaller wave. Planning a private session at Omaha? We run those on request, just get in touch.

You should be comfortable in waist to chest deep water. We stay in the shallows for beginner lessons and a coach is with you the whole time.
Just your togs, a towel and sunscreen. We supply the wetsuit and the surfboard. Bring a warm layer for afterwards.
Surf lessons run in most conditions, rain included. If the ocean is genuinely unsafe we will contact you to reschedule at no cost.
The group lesson suits ages 6 and up. For dedicated kids coaching and camps, our Kids Surf Programs are built just for them.
Te Arai is on the Matakana Coast north of Auckland, a short drive from Mangawhai and Wellsford. Full directions are sent with your booking confirmation.
